At Mitchell & Dickinson we’re passionate about preserving historic buildings for future generations to enjoy. An example of this is the restoration works we recently carried out on a Grade II listed building in the port town of Bideford in North Devon.

The building is home to the new Bideford Library, which has relocated from the town hall to a Victorian-era arts centre building on the town’s waterfront. The new library is fully accessible and has all the facilities you’d expect from a modern library, including comfortable reading areas, public computers and a community space for local groups to use.

Mitchell & Dickinson restored the historic building’s windows to make them fit for the future. Our highly-skilled craftsmen installed our advanced draught proofing and secondary glazing solution, CozyGlazing, which can reduce heat loss from single glazed windows by up to 70%. This is just one of the many historic public spaces we’ve helped to restore across the south of England.

Commenting on the opening of the new Bideford Library, Councillor Roger Croad, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health, Communities and Equality, said:

“I’m pleased that the town will have the library that it deserves; an exciting and stimulating place where the advantages of a modern library and learning opportunities are housed in one building. It will significantly benefit Bideford and its wider community.”
