Mitchell & Dickinson have won the Large project of the year at the SW Energy Efficiency Awards for its project to insulate the village of Clovelly.
It also received the accolade of Commended in the category of Fabric & Insulation Installer of the Year.
Mitchell and Dickinson co-founder Mukti Mitchell said: ‘This is a testament to all the team and in particular to our craftsmen and project managers who have worked in Clovelly over the last year. It is a very prestigious award where we were compared with very large construction projects across the entire South West – and we came out as the winner.
‘This ground-breaking project was commissioned by The Honorable John Rous, owner of the Clovelly Estate, who commissioned a number of test properties before proceeding with the insulation of the entire village of 114 homes. His objectives were to improve warmth and comfort for tenants, to reduce heating bills and to raise the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings to E or above.
‘This award is a reminder of the bigger picture that we are contributing to with every single window that we secondary glaze or restore: we are gradually insulating Britain’s heritage homes. That means making them warm, more comfortable to live in and saving householders money on their heating (over £1,000 savings per year reported by some Clovelly residents).
‘By working together as a team we are creating jobs for 20 people in Bideford, reducing the nation’s carbon footprint and proving that others can do the same, to create a liveable habitat for our grandchildren and their grandchildren, so that they can enjoy the beautiful natural world that we so love today.’
