How to look after your CosyGlazing secondary glazing

Your guide to maintaining CosyGlazing
cosyglazing maintenance

To keep your CosyGlazing looking great and performing at its best, regular care and maintenance is essential. This guide will help you clean, remove, and reinstall your panels properly—along with tips for maintaining the surrounding fixtures and frames.

General care and cleaning

CosyGlazing panels, along with your original window frames (inside only), will have been cleaned by our skilled craftspeople during installation. To maintain this condition, occasional cleaning is recommended. We provide you with a specialist cleaning solution and a microfibre cloth at installation. If needed, you can use widely available genuine glass cleaning products with microfibre cloths. Avoid paper towels and abrasive or ammonia-based cleaners as they can scratch or damage the plexiglass surface.

Dust the panels first using a dry microfibre cloth. Then, using a mild soap solution, gently wipe the surface in circular motions with a damp, lint-free cloth. Rinse with another damp cloth and dry thoroughly to avoid streaks. For tougher marks, apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to a cloth and rub gently.

Important: Keep magnetic strips free from oils, residue, or dirt to maintain a secure seal.

Removing CosyGlazing safely

You’ll find that removing CosyGlazing is straightforward with the suction lift provided. Attach the suction tool near one corner of the panel, gently peel the unit away from the magnetic strips while supporting it with your other hand. As the panel releases, air pressure will make removal easier. Use both hands to support the panel fully, especially for larger units, which may require two people.

Once removed, always place the panel flat on a soft, clean surface like a fleece or sheet. Avoid hard surfaces, carpet, or storing panels on their sides or ends, as this could cause scratches or warping. Panels should be stored flat, covered, and at room temperature to prevent damage from heat or cold expansion.

Note: Each panel is uniquely made to fit a specific window. If you’re removing multiple panels, label them and remember their orientation, otherwise, they may not fit back properly.

Reinstalling CosyGlazing panels

To reinstall, place the panel flat on a soft surface and attach the suction lift to the centre. Align the magnetic strips at the base or bottom corners first, then gently press into place. Avoid bumping the panel against catches or frames to prevent marking or scratching.

Special considerations for sash windows

If your windows are integrated sash windows, remember that they’ve been weighted to balance with CosyGlazing fitted. Removing the glazing may result in the sash ‘flying up’ due to unbalanced weights, which could damage the original glass. Avoid opening sash windows without the CosyGlazing in place, or if necessary, do so with great care.

Before opening any window, ensure that all catches are fully released, and remove any security screws entirely to avoid damage to the CosyGlazing or the frame.

Maintenance tips for long-term care

To keep your windows and CosyGlazing system in optimal condition:

Original window frames should be inspected every three years. Check and repair putty, repaint as needed, and replace any rotten timber. Draught-proofing brushes may compress over time and should be checked, especially if windows are regularly opened.

Original glazing must be kept in good order. Repair cracks or loose putty immediately.
Window catches and handles (both original and newly installed) should be serviced annually and oiled twice a year. Insecure windows can compromise the seal and potentially damage CosyGlazing.

Brass fixtures will naturally tarnish; clean with Brasso or a similar product at least twice a year if a polished finish is preferred.

Painting should be done by a competent decorator. Avoid painting over brushes, cords, or sash mechanisms, which could impact thermal performance or window function. An oil-based paint or yacht primer can be used on internal frames for added moisture protection.

With gentle handling, routine cleaning, and basic maintenance, your CosyGlazing secondary glazing will continue to provide energy savings, warmth and comfort for many years to come.
