Big job as my windows needed a lot of restoration. Excellent quality, talented and considerate craftsmen.
So pleased with my windows. A wonderful product that has transformed my draughty house. It was a big job as my windows needed a lot of restoration. An excellent quality of work from talented and considerate craftsmen. Thank you.
Pleased with the smart look of the secondary glazing, you wouldn’t know it was there. Rooms feel warmer.
Work teams arrived promptly each morning, neat and tidy in their work and a delight to have around. Workmanship excellent, and pleased with the smart look of the secondary glazing, you wouldn’t know it was there. Rooms do feel warmer but will have to wait until later in the year to feel the benefit once winter is here. Would recommend.
All three windows are now draught-free and open easily. The room is noticeably warmer.
M&D fitted secondary glazing to our large bay window in a house built in 1881. As the upper sash of all three windows were arched we could not fit standard double glazing as we have done everywhere else. The windows were difficult to open too. The work was excellent, on time and all three windows are now draught-free and open easily. The room is noticeably warmer. The room was well protected and kept clean during the four days of work. Thank you M&D.
Bedrooms noticeably quieter and warmer. Draught proofing on front door has also worked brilliantly.
Delighted with our glazing. The bedrooms are noticeably quieter and warmer. The draught proofing on our front door has also worked brilliantly. All workmen were friendly and considerate and incredibly clean and tidy. They worked to an excellent standard, even coming back to ensure one heavy pane was sufficiently supported. Would highly recommend!
Experienced in heritage properties, with high-quality products and craftsmanship
We moved into our Grade II-listed cottage in January 2021. It was built in 1885 and is a Tudor design with brick (cavity) walls downstairs and timber construction upstairs.
Listed buildings have been exempt from EPCs since 2013 but I found a 2011 EPC with a G rating (worst). I could see from our viewings that the previous owners had not invested in energy efficiency improvements. Two weeks after moving in we had a visit from the ‘Beast from the East 2’. I took some thermal images and could see that our home was glowing and heating the sky!
There are many myths regarding what works and improvements owners can make to listed buildings, so I researched the Historic England library and the secondary glazing market. Before placing the (Phase 1) order, I contacted the New Forest National Park planning department and received a letter back from their Buildings and Conservation Officer advising:-
“Listed Building Consent and Planning Permission are not required to install secondary glazing, so the contractors (Mitchell and Dickinson) can be engaged for the final measurements and installation at your earliest convenience. The company are clearly experienced in working on heritage properties and their products and craftsmanship are of high quality, suitable for use in listed properties.”
From Sales (Dan, Ed and Kirsty), Planning (Rachel) and Installation (Dominic, Will and Matt), we have found M&D to be very helpful and professional throughout. Listed Buildings are individual, so will throw up obstacles requiring project managers to think on their feet to find solutions. Dom was served a number of curveballs but he remained calm throughout, and identified cost-effective solutions.
Payback for Phase 1 was calculated as 4.9 years – this was before our electricity and LPG went up by 50%. It is early spring and we have had a few cold mornings. My wife and daughter have commented that the house feels warmer already. We are very happy to recommend Mitchell & Dickinson’s insulation solutions for period or listed properties.
Impact on temperature in the house and don’t notice the secondary glazing.
Tony and his team fitted ten windows with secondary glazing for us. We are very happy with results and the service received. Fitting was performed very efficiently on a wide range of windows, with careful colour-matching, etc. We’ve noticed the impact on temperature in the house (Georgian cob construction, Grade II-listed) and don’t notice the secondary glazing itself. There were some minor issues with two windows after fitting, but these were efficiently and effectively addressed by the team, with Tony himself returning to rectify in under an hour.
Excellent work. Kept to time and budget. Makes a big impact to an old house.

Neat, tidy, unobtrusive and will hopefully cut our energy costs.
We chose secondary glazing with some trepidation as our 17th Century mullions are beautiful and we were worried about spoiling them. We are delighted with the result: neat, tidy, unobtrusive and will hopefully cut our energy costs. Luke and his team were a pleasure to have in our home. They have a great work ethic and took care to make as little impact on our lives as possible. They were always bright and friendly and meticulous in their work.
We can instantly see the benefits and I can highly recommend M&D.
We have a listed building with many single-glazed windows. We were losing a lot of heat, had terrible draughts, the windows wouldn’t open and close, and we heard a lot of noise from outside. M&D tackled all of these issues by carrying out general restoration work and installing CosyGlazing. The team were professional, respectful and understood how to work in a property with many quirks. While older properties will never be perfect, the work carried out has eliminated/heavily reduced the issues. We can instantly see the benefits and I can highly recommend M&D.
Very nice people to deal with and we’re very pleased with the results.
Mitchell & Dickinson draught proofed six casement windows at our home and added secondary glazing. Very nice people to deal with and we’re very pleased with the results.
Very efficient, delightful to have around and they did a great job.
The team put 11 secondary glazing units in the house. Josh, Matt and Luke were very efficient, delightful to have around and they did a great job. I would recommend M&D. The expense is worth the expertise.
I don’t really notice the glazing. The rooms are now warm and the house no longer damp.
We live in a Grade II listed house, built around 1870, near the cold damp sea. The condensation every morning is not good and was starting to produce mould. I wasn’t thrilled about having secondary glazing as aesthetics are important and, as we had just finished renovating, I didn’t want to deal with more building mess and disruption. Well, I didn’t have to. Tim came early, worked hard and left the house clean. I don’t really notice the glazing on the sash windows and the rooms are now warm and the house no longer damp. Tim was so helpful, friendly and worked incredibly hard to make the experience easy for us. He succeeded.
Completed our 3rd insulation work with M&D. Delighted again with the quality.
Just completed our 3rd insulation work with M&D. Delighted again with the quality of the work, professional and friendly team on site and the support from the office.
I highly recommend them to other people in old, crooked, drafty homes!
A friendly, efficient team who got on with the work well and cleared up well afterwards. Ours is a crooked, timber framed home dating from the 1620s. Tony and his team coped with all the irregularities, odd gaps around doors and drafty windows. We now have a draught-free home with secondary glazing to the windows and a roof space well insulated with thick layers of lambs’ wool. They ordered and fitted new window handles, so now they are all matching and in keeping with the age of the house. Many thanks to Tony and the team, I highly recommend them to other people in old, crooked, drafty homes!
A really fantastic experience and absolutely value for money.
Mitchell and Dickinson fitted CosyGlazing secondary glazing to the sash windows in my Grade II listed house as well as draught proofing and loft insulation. I’d really recommend their services. The difference in noise in the house was noticeable from the moment the first window was finished and the whole house has been noticeably warmer to the extent that I’ve been able to turn the heating down despite it being the middle of winter. The team were friendly and helpful from the office staff right through to the fittings team. A really fantastic experience and absolutely value for money.
Nothing fazed them and they found solutions to all the problems in our 500-year-old house.
We were delighted with the work done by Rob and his team. The house is significantly warmer and traffic noise is reduced. Our 500 year old house threw up all sorts of problems but nothing fazed them and they found solutions to all the problems. I would not hesitate to recommend Mitchell & Dickinson if you are considering having work done.
Would definitely recommend to anyone needing work done on their windows.
Tony and his team did a fantastic job on my windows. Very professional and pleasant to work with. The whole team from start to finish were spot on! I’ll be having the rest of the windows in my flat completed by the team. Would definitely recommend to anyone needing work done on their windows.
I am delighted to have the opportunity to recommend Mitchell and Dickinson.
I have received excellent service from Mitchell and Dickinson. Every part of the team was helpful and knowledgeable. Keith and the team who actually carried out the work were very polite and liaised with me daily to minimise disruption. I was kept up to date about start dates; these had to change, which I fully understood when I saw how the team dealt with surprise extras needed for my quite dilapidated windows. Nothing was rushed or bodged. The windows are now far better than new and the house is so much warmer. I am delighted to have the opportunity to recommend Mitchell and Dickinson; service standards this high are rare in any industry.
The quality of the work on site, the people and, most importantly, the results get 5 stars.
We live in a Grade II listed house and were very cautious about insulation. M&D seemed to be a good solution as the window system appeared to be discrete and effective. We were introduced to one of their customers so we were able to look at the system in a house and talk to the owner about their experiences. That gave us confidence to proceed. The installation process was made more difficult by us getting a Green Home Grant which was an overly complicated process but as the grant deadline approached the M&D staff worked incredibly hard to get the job done in time for us to claim the grant. We were very impressed with the two men who installed the system and it has transformed the room it is in to the extent that we are now going to have other windows done as well. I have given M&D 4 stars because of some early problems applying for the grant that are now irrelevant as the grant scheme has been withdrawn. The quality of the work on site, the people and, most importantly, the results get 5 stars.
I’m so glad we took on M&D: They know what they’re doing, and every inch is hand-made.
25 windows made draught-proof and given another layer of glazing, all immaculate and virtually invisible, despite the wonky window shapes of our ancient house. Superb and creative craftsmanship by Charlie Graham and his team, who also volunteered many extra touches to help the insulation process. We went in for this after switching to Air Source Heat Pumps, to reduce leakage of precious warm air. It wasn’t cheap, but I’m so glad we took on M&D: they know what they’re doing, and every inch is hand-made.
They understand they are in your home, not on a building site, and are highly professional.
Craftsmen Kai and Robin did a superb job refurbishing and adding secondary glazing to two big sash windows in the bedroom at our Grade II* apartment. The room is warmer and quieter, there is no more condensation, and the windows operate far more smoothly and easily. The two were a pleasure to have here: They understand they are in your home, not on a building site, and are highly professional. The M&D team back at base have been very good too. Covid considerations inevitably brought delays but we were kept well-informed: More evidence of a professional approach.
I still can’t get over how unobtrusive the appearance is.
I had my reservations as to whether secondary glazing for a Grade II listed Georgian house, close to Heathrow, could be effective for heating and noise reduction and done tastefully, and then would it be worth the cost. Answer: yes. Tony and Joe finished the work in 8 days rather than the planned 15 days; they were an excellent team. Tony was exemplary: friendly, well organised, clear communication, turning up early and steadily working his fine craftmanship to a well thought through plan. I am delighted with the end result: 9 windows that are repaired, working well and now make that part of the house significantly warmer and quieter. I still can’t get over how unobtrusive the appearance is. Highly recommend this company.
All work was neat and surfaces covered, no loud music and even made their own tea!
After a delay to the start the execution was faultless. Arrived at 8am every day and left at 4pm. 10 windows and 2 doors in 10 days including a rebuild of a very old window outside the quote. The latter was priced and extra timber acquired. All work was neat and surfaces covered, no loud music and even made their own tea!
The finished product is brilliant, hardly visible and keeping my once cold house much warmer.
We had the whole house secondary glazed. Tony could not have been more professional or friendly. They were clean tidy , on time and nothing was too much trouble. The finished product is brilliant, hardly visible and keeping my once cold house much warmer. Thank you Tony.
We are very pleased to have found this company and very satisfied with our “new” windows.
We are very pleased with the restoration work carried out on the four original sash and case windows at the front of our house. The windows are now in beautiful condition and fully functioning, with much of the original glass and its interesting imperfections retained. The CosyGlazing has a smart appearance and is very effective. The job was carried out with skill and professionalism. Tim and George were a great team and were considerate at all times. Whilst it isn’t great having windows removed in November, we would like to thank them both for a great job. We are very pleased to have found this company and very satisfied with our “new” windows.
Our newly restored windows look brand new and we are extremely pleased!
Kai and the whole team were fantastic – very professional, passionate and knowledgeable about their work. Our newly restored windows look brand new and we are extremely pleased! Thank you!!
The glazing panels were fitted and are unobtrusive and very effective: the house is so much warmer and quieter.
This company installed secondary double glazing and loft insulation in our 18th century house. The work was carried out to an extremely high standard.
We have a mixture of sash and other windows, several of which needed repair. The large repairs were done beautifully with pieces of oak and the smaller areas of rot were taken right back to good wood and filled with epoxy filler. Everything was then finished and repainted and looks marvellous. The glazing panels were then fitted and are unobtrusive and very effective: the house is so much warmer and quieter.
The foreman was Tony and he was assisted at different times by Matt, Peter and Daniel. They were all unfailingly friendly, polite and helpful. Tony kept us regularly informed about what he found as he worked on the windows and he happily dealt with my one or two requests for small changes to the works.
I would definitely recommend Mitchell and Dickinson.
Having looked at a number of competitors, Mitchell & Dickinson were the stand out winner for the task.
The windows in our Grade II-listed house were in a poor state of repair, and most were single glazed. We wanted a cost-effective way to both repair and insulate our windows, which were a mixture of sash and casement windows – some dating from the 17th Century.
Having looked at a number of competitors, Mitchell & Dickinson were the stand out winner for the task. Not only did we really like the product, which could be applied to all window types, but everyone we dealt with during the assessment phase was utterly professional.
The installation team were with us for 2 months; courteous, friendly, tidy and extremely good at their job, they worked closely with us throughout to ensure we were happy with the work and had the opportunity to make any changes as we went along.
We are extremely pleased with the final product and would recommend Mitchell & Dickinson to anyone in a similar position.
We are now considering having them return to do two more of our sash windows.
Tony and Matt were our superlative team of installers who finished a four day job in our 18th century cottage last week.
The quality of their work and the finished product is exceptional – refurbishment, draughtproofing and secondary glazing to two sash windows and one metal casement window that it is almost invisible and yet highly effective against traffic noise (and almost certainly heat loss though too early to tell at this stage).
Tony and Matt were delightful and left the rooms where work was completed, and our garage which was temporarily their work shop, clean, tidy and entirely as they found them. All promises and timeframes were met and the office team were also polite, professional and a pleasure to work with.
In summary, we are so impressed with the effectiveness of M&D’s cozy glazing product and the professionalism of the service that we are now considering having them return to do two more of our sash windows.
From start to finish the experience was first class.
The firm were highly recommended to me by a neighbour and from start to finish the experience was first class. The office staff that I dealt with were friendly and very helpful and the guys who came to survey and then do the job were a pleasure to welcome into my home. I am extremely pleased with the work done and have no hesitation at all in recommending Mitchell & Dickinson.
We look forward to a much cosier winter.
I don’t often write reviews but I can thoroughly recommend M&D. The office staff were extremely efficient and Tony and Josh, who fitted our secondary glazing and insulation, did an excellent job with enthusiasm and great attention to detail. We are very happy with the result and look forward to a much cosier winter.
Their craftsmanship and professionalism was peerless.
We live in a draughty early 19th century grade II listed thatched cottage, no surface is level, no window straight, and no wall vertical. Legislation limits what we can do to rectify any of the above and ‘routine’ work can prove to be anything but! Set against this background we approached Mitchell & Dickinson with a degree of trepidation.
We needn’t have worried. Everyone we have had dealings with has been cheerfully professional and incredibly reassuring. Every step happened when it was scheduled to happen, no chasing up, no wasting time waiting for a call. We had two surveys and ample opportunity to ask questions. When I pointed out our wonky windows to one technician his reply was ‘don’t worry, wonky is what we do’!
The day came for the work to start…again bang on schedule. The work took a fortnight, Brett was with us all the time, George for the first week, and Gary for the second. Their craftsmanship and professionalism was peerless, but better than that they were the tidiest and most considerate craftsmen we have ever encountered. Put simply they turned up, cracked on, cleaned up and left – never leaving a mess and never leaving the house unsecure.
The quality of the secondary glazing is outstanding. All our windows now fit. We amuse ourselves by seeing if visitors spot the plexiglass (they don’t). We are delighted thank you!
The tidiest and most considerate tradespersons we have ever encountered.
We have had Brett and George here working on our windows for most of the week. Today they handed over several finished windows. Blimey! We are beyond pleased.
The quality of their work is superb, but more than that they are the tidiest and most considerate tradespersons we have ever encountered.
It could not be neater or less visible than what was achieved.
I had Mitchell & Dickinson perform some insulation and draught proofing at my C17th listed house. The craftsmen they sent were really first class.
Draught proofing doors. Well it could not be neater or less visible than what was achieved. Big difference in draughts but work done v. v. well so no character lost at all.
Some excellent insulation work – super neat and tidy in some tricky areas. And some new floorboards put down expanding storage area. Again excellent. We did not have quite enough sheepswool – no problem – they found some 60 miles away and got it.
Really first class team. Did not rush. They genuinely wanted a happy customer and they got it. Thank you.
A near invisible system of secondary glazing in a listed building.
Good communication, and honest, reliable fitters. Any problems were dealt with promptly and without fuss. A near invisible system of secondary glazing in a listed building. We look forward to a cosier winter.
Their employees are delightful, courteous, fun and brilliantly competent.
M&D have done secondary glazing and loft insulation. Also dry-lining – a layer of insulation board on top of the existing plaster-board wall. Their employees are delightful, courteous, fun and brilliantly competent. I am always slightly sad when they leave! Expensive, but on balance worth it.
They really made the effort to make sure the space was cleaned each night.
We had a couple of quotes for secondary glazing, and although M&D were overall more expensive I think it was worth it. We also had the insulation work completed on the windows which I believe will help during the winter. We suffered with a lot of condensation, after the works it hasn’t completely gone but we can definitely see a vast improvement, only a slight mist now. All of the team have been very helpful. Kirsty was excellent in providing the initial information. Kai and Keith were amazing. They are true craftsman who are passionate about the work and service they provide. It is messy work but they really made the effort to make sure the space was cleaned each night during the project work. I would not hesitate to recommend M&D for insulation and secondary glazing work.
If only all tradespeople could be this good.
M&D are in a different league to most installers. Second time using them and exceptional service as before. From start to finish you feel in good hands. Tony and Josh were polite, courteous and left no trace of their amazing work. I could not recommend M&D more highly; if only all tradespeople could be this good.
We are happy with the work that was completed as per estimate and would recommend the addition to other prospective buyers.
We had the secondary glazing installed on all our Grade II Listed property windows after much initial uncertainty on our part regarding effectiveness and cost (and cheaper options that we found all seemed substandard). In hindsight, it was worth going the extra mile. As other reviewers note, the panels are unobtrusive and were carefully fitted. Prior to installation, our single-glazed windows acted like refrigerator panels each winter, but this has now been rectified adding significant warmth to our home. The installation has also cut down the significant problem we had with condensation to a small amount of misting on cold nights which is to be expected. The magnetic fitting of the plexiglass to individual sections of wooden frame, with custom made black cast iron monkey-tail window catches used throughout, also means we can open these sections of window as required; and easily remove and internally clean the single glazing and secondary glazing when needed. Overall we are happy with the work that was completed as per estimate and would recommend the addition to other prospective buyers
Now I have a cosy and very toasty lounge which is a pleasure to be in.
I have been really impressed with the workmanship and dedication of the team from Mitchell and Dickinson. The whole end of one large room with 12 foot high ceilings is Victorian glass, single glazed with draughty French windows. Now I have a cosy and very toasty end of my lounge which is a pleasure to be in rather than a chore. The integrity and the aesthetic of the original doors and windows have been retained and no one has really noticed the secondary glazing at all until I point it out! Really good to work with this company, very professional all-round. Can’t wait till the end of lockdown so I can invite friends round and show it off!
Absolutely fantastic, true craftspeople
Absolutely fantastic, true craftspeople. The quality of work couldn’t be better, the team were happy to discuss all the options and take the time to find the best solution
Our windows had certain features that made the conventional solutions unworkable, but the team came up with alternatives that suit the house perfectly
Excellent workmanship, and a great product. Our windows had certain ‘unique’ features that made the conventional solutions unworkable, but the team came up with alternatives that suit the house perfectly. Very happy with all aspects of our interaction with M&D.
Punctuality, tidiness, attention, helpfulness, respect for our surroundings…we can only give the highest accolade.
Tony & Josh carried out the work at our property. Throughout the installation, their manner and professionalism were of the highest quality. With regards to such areas as punctuality, tidiness, attention, helpfulness, respect for our surroundings…we can only give the highest accolade. We are delighted with the finished product and considering further work from M & D for which we would request the same team.
They even bought treats for our dog.
Exceptional service. Both Tony & Josh who fitted our secondary glazing where a pleasure to have working at our home. Very friendly, communicative, skilled and flexible to work around our needs as we juggled home schooling and work. They even bought treats for our dog. Thank you
Expert efficient, workmanship from a friendly team.
We are certainly feeling the difference inside the rooms in our Edwardian house that were recently expertly secondary glazed by Mitchell &Dickinson! Sash windows can still be opened, and from the inside, the secondary removable glazing is virtually invisible. Expert efficient, workmanship from friendly team leader Tony and Josh. Thanks.
The end result is almost impossible to see and has already made an enormous difference in terms of warmth and soundproofing. We are delighted and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Mitchell and Dickenson.
We carried out a huge amount of research on possible secondary glazing for our listed house before deciding to use Mitchell and Dickenson and they haven’t disappointed. Everyone involved from initial contact to Tony and Josh who carried out the work was friendly, professional and made the whole process relatively painless! We had secondary glazing fitted to 6 sash windows at the front of the house and although the windows weren’t in particularly poor condition, they rattled and were draughty. The end result is almost impossible to see and has already made an enormous difference in terms of warmth and soundproofing. We are delighted and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Mitchell and Dickenson.
Highly recommended for draught-proofing and restoration work.
Excellent product, excellent service, producing excellent results! Thank you, Mitchell & Dickinson. Highly recommended for draught-proofing and restoration work.
There’s always a slight dread sharing your house with complete strangers but the guys where brilliant
I just wanted to say thank you for the excellent work done over the last couple of weeks at Hyde Farm but equal to let you know what a pleasure it was having your team on site. There’s always a slight dread sharing your house with complete strangers but the guys where brilliant. They tolerated our dogs, worked around us with minimum disruption and were always polite and friendly. So much so our kids insisted on baking cakes for them in the first week and bring home ice creams for them after our beach trip this week!!
Of course, the standard of work is vital and the work is top-notch but having such nice people around makes the whole process so much more enjoyable.
The team were very considerate of sharing the space in the house and very careful of other furnishings etc.
We had 11 sash windows restored and secondary glazed in a 19th Century townhouse. It was a big investment, but the team worked hard for three weeks on removing, refurbishing and refitting all the windows, with high standards and good attention to detail. The project manager was excellent and made sure (without being asked) that a few bits of less polished work by trainees were brought up to standard. The team were very considerate of sharing the space in the house and very careful of other furnishings etc. The heating now comes on noticeably less, so we’re hopeful of lower energy bills. We don’t have to wedge beer mats in the frames to stop them rattling, and there is less noise from the busy road outside
The workmanship was excellent and the windows were draft-proofed as well as glazed
We live in a Grade 2 listed building and so had to be careful that any work done was sympathetic to the building. As the single glazing was cold and expensive on heating costs we decided to have all our windows and outside entry door secondary glazed. Mitchell & Dickinson were excellent throughout the process and we highly recommend them. Initially, due to the COVID lockdown we were not available for the fitment date so M&D were very flexible. Indeed their administration throughout was excellent. Once fitting began the fitting team were courteous, professional and minimised intrusion. The workmanship was excellent and the windows were draft-proofed as well as glazed. The actual glazing panels are unobtrusive and the windows open as intended. Now the work is done the house feels a lot warmer and the heating is not needed to the same degree. We recommend Mitchell & Dickinson.
The house is a more comfortable place to live in
I live in an Edwardian 3 storey semi with the original sash windows. I love the windows and the original glass and have backed off getting them replaced. In more recent times I have become more concerned about my carbon footprint. Mitchell and Dickinson have come up with the solution and secondary glazed all the sash windows, front door and french doors. The house is so much warmer and the windows look great and work well. In fact, on first glance visitors do not notice the conversion to secondary glazing. The team were good to be around. They simply got on with it and worked around my presence. I am feeling the benefits of the insulation.
Highly recommended for window repair and secondary glazing
Mitchell and Dickinson repaired all our wooden windows and installed secondary glazing throughout the house. The experience was extremely positive from start to finish. Their staff are all exceptionally helpful from Tom in pre-sale, Helen in the office all the way through to the installation teams. Special mention to Kai who went out of his way to make something relatively invasive as easy as possible for me and my family. We also had a couple of unforeseeable issues post install which Mitchell and Dickinson resolved in a very timely and honourable manner. We would definitely use them again and would highly recommend them to anyone else looking for window repairs or secondary glazing.
Super-efficient and very helpful
Very impressed with all the work done to clear out and insulate our loft, etc. with cosy, thermafleece sheep’s wool. Would highly recommend Mitchell & Dickinson.
Great job! We had M&D teams with us for four weeks over three visits. Partially because of a complex job and partially because of all the little, and not so little, surprises that turned up during the job. We have a listed property and whilst there is some debate whether an LBC is actually required, we applied for one with M&D assistance. No queries from the conservation officer and received approval v quickly.
We did look at a number of systems before settling on M&D. Definitely not the cheapest but the overall appearance is great. It wasn’t a quick decision for us, probably two years from first contact to completion. Helen was our main contact and she was ever helpful and ready to answer our various questions and queries. Equally important for a job of this type is the skill and experience of the fitting teams. The three teams of fitters that we met were all skilled, systematic, calm and thorough.
There is a definite quality approach to the work. They were all polite, clean and tidy. Our project included an amount of restoration and it turned out that there was rather more restoration required than we’d anticipated! Dealing with the surprises was where the fitters skill and experience really made the difference. The end result is a warmer home where the secondary glazing is hardly noticeable.
We have a Grade II Listed 1740 Town House with Georgian facade with 9 front/side sash windows which rattled, leaked and once even let snow into our daughter’s bedroom. We had been looking for years for a suitable secondary glazing solution, which is sensitive to the Listing, easy on the eye and effective in terms of noise and heat loss reduction. Mitchell and Dickinson has been a superb choice! It uses a quality skilled team of surveyors, craftsmen and supported by best customer service. This is not a cheap option, however the payback period is good in terms of energy bills; and the quality of the work is superb. We have noticed immediately a huge difference in warmth in the house as well as a dampening of the external noise. We would recommend this company to anyone. The best customer experience we have had in years! Thank you.

They tolerated our dogs, worked around us with minimum disruption and were always polite and friendly. Of course the standard of work is vital and the work is top notch but having such nice people around makes the whole process so much more enjoyable.
Mitchell and Dickinson provided a great service, making me feel like an individual and the end result is fantastic.
We live in a grade 2 listed property and had secondary glazing installed in a number of the original windows. Once we had decided to go with them they sent somebody to the property to do the final measurements. One thing that quickly became clear is they have a real passion for restoring period property’s and that you get a very individual approach/service. We discussed options for each window and discussed the pros and cons of each.
When the work was completed Keith and Robin were on site for a week and they were a pleasure to have around. Very polite, happy to answer any questions and very passionate about their job. We are really happy with the work that’s been completed. The quality of the work by Keith and Robin is excellent and final finished product is almost invisible, has made a noticeable reduction to noise and increase in warmth. We would certainly look to use them again in the future if the need arises and I won’t hesitate to recommend them, hence the review.
Thanks Mitchell & Dickinson! This secondary glazing system is amazing – completely unobtrusive & exceeded expectations. More than that, the attendant renovation of the eight sash windows in our Grade 2 listed former vicarage has now made operation of them a pleasure! The team from M&D were highly skilled; they faced more problems with the renovation – wet rot – than expected but did a great job and were a pleasure to have in the house.
Mitchell and Dickinson fitted secondary glazing to our listed grade 2 house with no window that was square or entirely straight. The end result is very impressive. The system fits perfectly and it is very unobtrusive. The fitters were polite and helpful and did a great job clearing up after themselves each evening. The office staff were also excellent and professional. Our forever changing timeline for the building works we were having done prior to the secondary glazing was accommodated with no problems.
We are too hot all the time! Before the CosyGlazing was installed we were using 4 bags of coal a week. As soon as they had finished the installation of secondary glazing, draught proofing and loft insulation, out coal use dropped to 1.5-2 bags a week. It’s heaps better. It also sound proofs the children’s bedrooms so they don’t get woken up by heavy footsteps in the street. It’s February but the children say “it’s like summer in the house mummy.” They can go to the bathroom without getting wrapped up in towels first.
This was the second job that we’ve had M&D do for us and, as with the last job, the experience throughout was of the highest quality: clear communication about the works (including specific clarification about how to resolve an issue with overly wet woodwork); polite, reliable and friendly employees; clean and tidy job; and of course, excellent results.
We have nothing but praise for the workmanship and courtesy of the Mitchell and Dickinson team. What is more, we are delighted with our secondary glazing on the large sash windows of our listed mill house in the New Forest National Park, and we cannot recommend the company highly enough. Worth every penny!
Mitchell & Dickinson recently assisted with installing secondary glazing, draught proofing and loft insulation at our Grade II listed home. I chose Mitchell & Dickinson on the basis that they had expertise with listed buildings and demonstrated an environmental and sustainability consideration with their products. I have been impressed with the work carried out and immediately have had to turn our heating down due to the improved heat retention. Brett and his team were polite and tidy and kept me updated with progress when required. I especially appreciate the debrief on how to service the secondary glazing going forward – this shows a degree of customer service which is easily overlooked. The team went out of their way to attend the property (which was outside their immediate vicinity) and all members of staff were consistently courteous and helpful. I strongly recommend Mitchell & Dickinson if you want top of the range products and would definitely use them again.
Mitchell & Dickinson have just completed some work at one of our tenancies. This was in a Grade II* listed building. We were very impressed by the quality of their work and the courtesy and consideration of their skilled craftsmen. We have recommend them to our architect as we start planning a development on our Grade 1 eleventh century building. The trustees and tenants were delighted with the care and skill shown.
The product itself is a conservationist’s dream – you would hardly notice it once installed. Very impressive in that sense and truly meets the standard of “minimalist intervention”. In fact, we sought and achieved listed building consent even though there is a strong argument that the product is “temporary” in nature. It was nice to get the Local Authority’s formal approval though.
Mitchell & Dickinson themselves are professional and courteous. Everything was well planned and programmed in advance and, as such, the job progressed accordingly. Their quotation was very transparent and well costed so there was no arguments over what was and was not done as the job progressed.
All the personnel I dealt with were courteous, patient and utterly professional. The product is barely visible in situ, which is exactly what I wanted, and I am already benefitting from a lack of draughts. I now feel much more confident about facing the winter here.
We looked everywhere for a solution and couldn’t find anything that looked good until we found CosyGlazing, and some of the quotes we had were vastly expensive. But what you have done is better than I expected, with good soundproofing too – it’s amazing. I think it’s a fantastic job. Much better than I thought it was going to look, I must admit.
I would like to commend the workers, who installed my internal glazing and refurbished my sash windows, for their professionalism and high standard of workmanship. They worked hard and were friendly and polite throughout their stay. All contact with the company was received in a friendly and professional manner. I would highly recommend this company to other potential customers.
We have just returned from Italy and are thrilled with our new insulating windows. They are very discreet and smart and will clearly provide excellent insulation. The front door also is quite transformed and fits much more snugly into its frame.
The work carried out by the team was superb and we are really pleased with the standard of fit and finish. Our aim will be to have the remaining windows completed around Easter time.
