We would not hesitate to recommend the company.
We are absolutely delighted with the workmanship of Joe and Greg at Mitchell and Dickinson and would not hesitate to recommend the company.
The team frequently went above and beyond.
Mitchell & Dickinson restored nine Georgian / Victorian windows that were in very bad condition and installed secondary glazing. Luke, Zack and Alistair did fantastic work, restoring the wooden frames and leaving each room clean, neat and tidy. All work was delivered on time (in fact, slightly ahead of schedule) and the team frequently went above and beyond to make sure it was the best job possible. N.B. This is not a cheap solution, but you definitely get value-for-money.
The project was completed on time and within budget.
Mitchell & Dickinson have just completed the refurb of five large sash windows, three of which date back to 1852. It is a house of multiple occupancy and the craftsmen left it much cleaner than when they arrived. In a difficult situation, they focused their work on one room while maintaining the security of the property and respect for belongings. The project was completed on time and within budget. We are planning for the second tranch of work for next year. Excellent result – thanks to Gary, Harry and Leo and the others!
Finished product looks excellent.
Very professional and hardworking team. They are proud of their work and of ensuring the highest quality. Very good follow up to to clear up snags. Finished product looks excellent in that you cannot even see the secondary glazing which is just what we want, and our draughty house is now nice and cosy.
The glazing is as unobtrusive as it is possible to be.
We hired Mitchell & Dickinson to install some secondary glazing to our home, a late Georgian listed building in Hampshire. From the moment the team arrived they were magnificent. They are real craftsmen and we were amazed at the work that went into refitting our French doors and windows, and then draught proofing before the glazing panels were fitted. Thanks to the subtlety of the system and the matching of paints, the glazing is as unobtrusive as it is possible to be – it really is hard to see it is even there.
It was a sterling job from start to finish.
I’d like to thank all of the team at Mitchell & Dickinson – it was a sterling job from start to finish and communication was fabulous. The craftsmen were conscientious, helpful and pulled out all the stops to get a replacement glazing sheet when one was scratched in transit. They completed the job in the estimated time without any compromise on quality. My grade II listed flat is now quieter and looking forward to a warmer winter. I can’t recommend these guys enough, thank you.
I would recommend them in an instant.
Brilliant from start to finish! Paul and his team were incredibly professional. They were considerate of all the household requirements, including understanding the special needs of one household member. They quite literally turned the place upside down but tidied everything away at the end of every day. The end result is six totally refurbished listed building windows that are a joy to open! I cannot express enough my gratitude to all the team and would recommend them in an instant.
The secondary glazing makes the original windows look so much better.
Arturo and Harry spent two weeks with us refurbishing, draught-proofing and installing secondary double glazing and stylish new window furniture on all our sash and casement windows. Surprisingly, the secondary glazing makes the original windows look so much better. They now smoothly glide open and closed and there are no draughts. Arturo and Harry are both passionate about their work and their company, and pay great attention to detail to ensure a perfect finish, and they left the place spotless.
Punctual, discreet, informative and highly skilled.
We would highly recommend Mitchell & Dickinson. We had restoration work carried out on the wooden window frames in our listed cottage, and CosyGlazing fitted after. Kevin and John, the two craftsmen, were punctual, discreet, informative and highly skilled. We are delighted with the CozyGlazing which has solved the problem of draughts and heat loss, and they look good too. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Mitchell & Dickinson, or use them again ourselves.
We were happy to pay a premium for peace of mind.
We are delighted with the work that Mitchell & Dickinson have carried out on the nine arched windows in our Grade II* listed apartment. The skilled craftsmen (thanks, Will and Phil) were a pleasure to have in our home, and they negotiated the issues of limited space and two dogs better than we could have hoped. The apartment is significantly quieter when the windows are closed, and we look forward to a cosier winter. Mitchell & Dickinson may be more expensive than rival companies, but we were happy to pay a premium for peace of mind and the knowledge that their after-sales service is top-notch. Our thanks go to the whole team: the office staff, the surveyors, the craftsmen. It has been a pleasure!
The cottage immediately felt less draughty.
Delighted with the work carried out on my windows by Mitchell & Dickinson. The cottage immediately felt much less draughty and a lot cosier. It also felt considerably quieter. Will and Joe are a great team, always considerate towards us, they took care of the property, were punctual and genuinely happy to do a good job. They left everywhere spotless. I’ve already recommended M&D to friends who are now planning to have their windows done.
Absolutely fabulous.
Top class service. The chaps doing the work (Luke ,Zac, Jack and Harry) were extremely professional, worked like trojans and were very accommodating on a challenging window fit and restoration. The finished product is excellent – we are so pleased and would highly recommend both the team and the company.
The team were polite, efficient and clean.
We had sash windows insulated, which involved releasing the ones that were painted shut, adjusting all to fit well, fitting brush draught excluders, fitting secondary glazing, re-weighting, refitting and retouching. Similar work was done to multiple casements, including sealing some shut. The front door was also insulated as it was badly fitted and leaked like a sieve. The secondary glazing is wonderfully discrete – not at all obtrusive. The team were polite, efficient and clean, leaving no mess behind. We are already noticing the difference to both thermal insulation and noise reduction.
The work was of a very high standard.
I have recently had Mitchell & Dickinson refurbish and fit CozyGlazing to the two sash windows on my Grade 2 listed building. I found the all of the people that worked on this from the office staff to the three guys who did the work to be extremely helpful and informative. The work was undertaken with the minimum amount of fuss and everything was left clean and tidy. The work was of a very high standard and I would highly recommend them to anyone who requires this type of work to be undertaken.
We are delighted with the CozyGlazing.

A significant improvement to a once very draughty entrance hall.
Fitted CozyGlazing to our Victorian cast iron diamond paned windows. The product is almost invisible from the inside. M&D also fitted draught proofing to the Victorian oak front door, which has made a significant improvement to a once very draughty entrance hall. The installation team were fantastic, attention to detail and quality was exceptional. The team were in the house for two weeks but were very neat and tidy and self sufficient.
Improving the energy efficiency of an ancient house.
The house is an ancient Dartmoor longhouse and the windows were crooked and very weathered, and in a pretty bad state. They now look terrific. They open and close easily, the drafts are all gone and the secondary glazing is almost invisible. We had struggled long and hard to find a way of improving the energy efficiency of an ancient house without destroying its character and were so relieved to find Mitchell & Dickinson’s perfect solution.
We are extremely happy with our choice.
We were extremely happy with the job Mitchell & Dickinson did. They were more expensive than some other companies but they clearly offer a far better product and we are extremely happy with our choice. Luke, Zac and Jack (the installers) were lovely guys and it was no bother having them working in the house and they made the process as easy as possible. Thank you.
From the outside it is impossible to tell we have secondary glazing.
Excellent job. We have just had CosyGlazing fitted to six windows. We were slightly nervous that the new glazing would detract from the appearance of the existing windows (which are old wooden sash windows – great to look at, but hopeless when it comes to insulation!). However, our fears were completely unfounded – from the outside it is impossible to tell we have secondary glazing, and even from the inside the windows still look good. The team were also very friendly and tidy, and we had excellent communication from head office. Very happy with the result.
The window system is great.
The two-person team who did the install were friendly, tidy and have done a very neat job. They also had to lug their gear up and down the lane from the high street (due to parking limitations) and did this all without a grumble or complaint.
All in all, I am very happy to recommend. The window system is great, condensation pretty much eliminated, it feels warmer already and it does a decent job of noise reduction.
Mitchell & Dickinson employees proved to be helpful.
We were delighted with the work undertaken at our cottage. Mitchell & Dickinson employees proved to be helpful, highly skilled and very pleasant to deal with.
We can now sit near windows without freezing.
Everyone was very helpful throughout. The workmen were friendly, considerate and helpful and their workmanship was excellent. The end result is brilliant. We can now sit near windows without freezing and unless you look carefully, you wouldn’t know the additional glazing was there.
Helpful, highly skilled and very pleasant to deal with.

I would go back to them for other work in a heartbeat with this degree of professionalism and quality.
Utterly professional company; did a wonderful job on our 200-year-old sash windows, which are now completely draft-proof and the internal glazing is virtually invisible. Kai and his team went so above and beyond, covering up everything, cleaning meticulously after they’d finished, and the quality of the work itself is exceptional. The booking staff were also excellent, keeping us fully informed throughout. My only complaint would be that a company this good really ought to be expanding its remit to cover more home improvements. I would go back to them for other work in a heartbeat with this degree of professionalism and quality. Thank you to the whole M&D team.
Condensation problems ceased immediately and the house is now noticeably warmer.
Josh and his team were very professional and creative when installing secondary glazing for our Edwardian Crittall windows with multiple leaded glass panes, requiring the construction of additional wooden frames to hold the acrylic panels in place where the cast iron handles on some of the casement windows protruded too much internally. They all worked in a polite and unobtrusive way until satisfied the job had been finished to a high standard and made sure no debris was left behind. Condensation problems ceased immediately and the house is now noticeably warmer.

Made a complex job very simple.
Very professional, cheerful craftsmen. They did a great job installing secondary glazing, and made a complex job very simple. The long lead time (6 months) led to a few minor hiccups on the admin front but nothing that wasn’t put right.
This is a rare company which believes in what its doing … I am full of admiration for their high standards.
I can’t recommend this company highly enough. We have an old listed house, with mullioned windows – no line is straight. One floor to ceiling arched window was particularly challenging because it had curved frame. Luke’s craftsmanship and attention to detail was exemplary – he took a real pleasure in doing the job to a very high standard. The Mitchell and Dickinson team were very helpful in correcting a problem at survey stage and while we had a long wait for them to do the work, it was more than worth it. This is a rare company which believes in what its doing – energy efficiency in old buildings. I am full of admiration for their high standards.
The secondary glazing allowed both sashes to open and could be fitted with working shutters in place.
A professional and hardworking team, and a pleasant experience. I have large Georgian sash windows in my first-floor Georgian terraced flat) and I would also echo earlier comments about the secondary glazing being unobtrusive. It was also the only product that I could find for large windows that allowed both sashes to open and could be fitted with working shutters in place. Not cheap, but I’m looking forward to there being considerably less heat-loss through the large area of thin crown glass as we get into the winter months.
The secondary glazing is so inconspicuous that we almost wondered if it had been fitted.
This was a really excellent experience. We had secondary glazing and door draught-proofing fitted by M&D. The team, Arturo and Jordan, were extremely professional and helpful, and worked round our various awkward requirements. The work was of the highest standard, and we are delighted with the result, having already noticed a difference in our heating needs. What we haven’t noticed is the secondary glazing itself, which is so inconspicuous that we almost wondered if it had been fitted. Well done!
We are very happy with the final product, the quality of the repair work and the glazing.
M&D refurbished, draught proofed and secondary glazed over 30 windows for us and a couple of doors. We chose M&D as we wanted a single company that could do all the work and wanted the system where we could use the windows as intended (i.e. the secondary glazing is fully integrated.)
Considering we had many of their people on site for a number of months they were very easy to have around the house. I have docked one star as, initially, our painting work was sub-contracted due to the size of the job. These decorators were not up to scratch so M&D removed them from the job and did the work themselves. The final product was good and, although the job did overrun a bit to get the right standard, I would not let that put me off highly recommending to others. We are very happy with the final product, the quality of the repair work and the glazing.
I’ve noticed a difference already, we’ve needed hardly any heating.
The teams of craftsmen restored, draught proofed and fitted secondary glazing, CozyGlazing, to ten sash windows and two doors. When they arrived in the summer they set up their machinery in the garage and got started. The works took about three weeks. Kai and his men were a pleasure to have about the place. I’ve noticed a difference already, we’ve needed hardly any heating, and it’s mid October. Great stuff!
Clean, courteous and professional as well as being lovely people.
Absolutely fantastic – Tony and the team worked efficiently and effectively to complete our job. They were very clean, courteous and professional as well as being lovely people to have around the house.
First glass job removing and overhauling my sash windows before fitting the secondary glazing.
The team did a first glass job removing and overhauling my sash windows before fitting the secondary glazing. They worked really hard on some very hot days and were friendly and respectful. The finish is really good and my windows are also more secure with the new lock.
Super professional and a lovely team.
Full insulation of all our windows and loft – great job by Mitchell & Dickinson – super professional and a lovely team.
Mitchell & Dickinson has draught-proofed our listed property to perfection!
Mitchell & Dickinson has draught-proofed our listed property to perfection! Devoted and talented workforce in Will and Joe who visited us here in Guildford two weeks ago. Now our 500 year old front door has no gaps showing daylight around it! Never thought it could be done – but they have achieved just that! Looking forward to a warmer winter 2022!
I rarely write recommendations but I’m writing this as I want prospective customers of M&D to know they won’t regret their decision.
Mitchell & Dickenson came very highly recommended but there is always a doubt until you have your own direct experience. But I need not have worried. The MD, Tom Coles, made a point of contacting us personally, to discuss our concerns. He then visited himself to conduct the survey. All of this made a very good impression.
The insulation process is long and complex. It involves workmen being inside your home for many days – four weeks, in our case. Again, there was trepidation. Again, I worried unnecessarily. From the first moment they arrived with us, their engineers – Tony and Jason – showed us every possible consideration. They were quiet, careful and exceptionally tidy. Every step was explained to us and our comments taken on board. Above all, they have very high standards, so we always felt we were in safe hands and that a wonderful job was being done.
Mitchell & Dickenson performs to a high level. We could tell that in advance from their literature and the recommendations they received. But this job is always going to be a major expenditure, for everyone, not something you would undertake lightly – even though the times make it all but a necessity. So, you look for indications that you are making a wise decision in choosing a particular company to carry out the work in your home.
I rarely write recommendations. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I did. But I am writing this because I want prospective customers of M&D to know that they will never regret their decision. This is one of those companies one hopes still exists – careful, considerate, thorough, highly professional, courteous and – absolutely – not just jumping on the eco-bandwagon to make a quick buck. They have been doing it for a while, long before it was profitable, because they think it’s the right thing to do. And I am very grateful for the day that someone recommended them to me.
The work was done very efficiently and carefully.
In June 2022, M&D refurbished, draught-proofed and added secondary glazing to three sash windows, and refurbished and draught-proofed a front door. Listed building consent had been refused for replacement of these. The work was done very efficiently and carefully. The team of 2/3 people – full-time over 9 days, with their workshop permanently installed in one room – were a pleasure to deal with. At the moment (first weeks), we are very pleased with the improved acoustic efficiency and expect significant thermal improvement.
Quieter with reduced traffic noise and better light compared to the old secondary glazing.
A challenging job: Restoring and renovating two large Victorian stained glass sash windows and adding secondary glazing. The company was very professional and easy to deal with from the start, and the installation team were friendly and thorough – ensuring the job was completed on time, on budget and fully to specification. The kitchen is now better insulated; quieter with reduced traffic noise from the busy road we live on, and with better light compared to the old glass secondary glazing. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. Strongly recommended.
The end result is exactly as expected and looks great.
Would use again. A very pleasant installation process which the team undertook with the minimum of disruption. The end result is exactly as expected and looks great.
Clear quote, considerate working practices and an excellent result.
Great people to deal with, both in the office and on-site, clear quote, considerate working practices and an excellent result.
Big job as my windows needed a lot of restoration. Excellent quality, talented and considerate craftsmen.
So pleased with my windows. A wonderful product that has transformed my draughty house. It was a big job as my windows needed a lot of restoration. An excellent quality of work from talented and considerate craftsmen. Thank you.
Pleased with the smart look of the secondary glazing, you wouldn’t know it was there. Rooms feel warmer.
Work teams arrived promptly each morning, neat and tidy in their work and a delight to have around. Workmanship excellent, and pleased with the smart look of the secondary glazing, you wouldn’t know it was there. Rooms do feel warmer but will have to wait until later in the year to feel the benefit once winter is here. Would recommend.
All three windows are now draught-free and open easily. The room is noticeably warmer.
M&D fitted secondary glazing to our large bay window in a house built in 1881. As the upper sash of all three windows were arched we could not fit standard double glazing as we have done everywhere else. The windows were difficult to open too. The work was excellent, on time and all three windows are now draught-free and open easily. The room is noticeably warmer. The room was well protected and kept clean during the four days of work. Thank you M&D.
Bedrooms noticeably quieter and warmer. Draught proofing on front door has also worked brilliantly.
Delighted with our glazing. The bedrooms are noticeably quieter and warmer. The draught proofing on our front door has also worked brilliantly. All workmen were friendly and considerate and incredibly clean and tidy. They worked to an excellent standard, even coming back to ensure one heavy pane was sufficiently supported. Would highly recommend!
Experienced in heritage properties, with high-quality products and craftsmanship
We moved into our Grade II-listed cottage in January 2021. It was built in 1885 and is a Tudor design with brick (cavity) walls downstairs and timber construction upstairs.
Listed buildings have been exempt from EPCs since 2013 but I found a 2011 EPC with a G rating (worst). I could see from our viewings that the previous owners had not invested in energy efficiency improvements. Two weeks after moving in we had a visit from the ‘Beast from the East 2’. I took some thermal images and could see that our home was glowing and heating the sky!
There are many myths regarding what works and improvements owners can make to listed buildings, so I researched the Historic England library and the secondary glazing market. Before placing the (Phase 1) order, I contacted the New Forest National Park planning department and received a letter back from their Buildings and Conservation Officer advising:-
“Listed Building Consent and Planning Permission are not required to install secondary glazing, so the contractors (Mitchell and Dickinson) can be engaged for the final measurements and installation at your earliest convenience. The company are clearly experienced in working on heritage properties and their products and craftsmanship are of high quality, suitable for use in listed properties.”
From Sales (Dan, Ed and Kirsty), Planning (Rachel) and Installation (Dominic, Will and Matt), we have found M&D to be very helpful and professional throughout. Listed Buildings are individual, so will throw up obstacles requiring project managers to think on their feet to find solutions. D
