We’re passionate about supporting the environment, through the energy-saving and property restoration services we offer and by sharing news and ideas from like-minded businesses and individuals. The Appledore Book Festival in September was therefore a fantastic opportunity for us to highlight the work of environmental campaigner and author Jonathon Porritt, CBE

The Appledore Book Festival comprised of more than 80 events, over ten days, which brought together some of the greatest names in the literary world along with actors, chefs, environmentalists, broadcasters and more – among them were Bill Bailey, Ruby Wax, Rick Stein, Nicholas Crane and Sara Cox. Mitchell & Dickinson sponsored Jonathon’s talk on his fascinating new book, Hope in Hell.

Jonathon Porritt’s credentials and experience in the field of sustainability are renowned. He is co-founder of Forum for the Future, president of The Conservation Volunteers, a director of Collectively, a trustee of World Wildlife Fund UK, former director of Friends of the Earth, former co-chair of the Green Party and former chair of the UK Sustainable Development Commission.

In the book, he estimates that the world has a deadline of a decade to confront the climate emergency. He is confident this can be achieved, if we act now. It is a proactive, optimistic reflection on where we are, where we need to be, and how we can get there. He highlights the many positive opportunities open to us through technology, innovation and the next generation, and invites us to work together, across the generations, to share and maximise our knowledge, resources and ideas, to develop sustainably and address climate change.

We wholeheartedly support Jonathon and his environmental campaigning, and share his belief in taking a practical, proactive approach to doing what we can, as individuals and businesses, to tackle climate change.

It is estimated that the UK needs to insulate one property every four minutes in order to meet the country’s carbon reduction requirements, and we’re committed to supporting this aim.

Mitchell & Dickinson is devoted to helping period homeowners insulate their properties and undertake other measures, such as secondary glazing and draft exclusion, to reduce their carbon footprint and their energy bills. If you haven’t already insulated your home, please get in touch to see how we can help you, your property and the environment.
